Taking the admin headache out of schools
With recent reports showing that school business managers are juggling more than ever, Woolworths at Work is helping to ease the burden through a range of helpful initiatives.
“School business managers are spinning a lot of plates every day to keep things running smoothly, so our goal is to take the ‘admin headache’ out of their hands,” Vanpoperinghe says.
“Schools have a unique rhythm, which is why our early-morning delivery windows are a real winner – ensuring all the essentials are ready from morning time.”
To help keep a firm hand on the budget, Woolworths at Work also offers spend controls and pre-approved limits so there are no surprises at the end of the month.
“Instead of chasing loose receipts, dozens of shops can become one GST-ready statement. It’s all about cleaning up the paperwork and giving business managers one less thing to worry about.”
As part of its broader footprint in Australian education, Woolworths at Work collaborates with major providers across early learning and OSHC to improve efficiency, value and sustainability.
Vanpoperinghe says working with large-scale providers like G8 Education and Camp Australia has been a “masterclass in managing complexity while keeping that local, person-to-person touch”.
“The biggest lesson we’ve brought into the K–12 space is that the need for operational consistency is universal. We have taken the learnings from high-volume national providers and tailored them for schools,” she says.
“For example, K–12 sites can create preferred lists and one-click reordering, ensuring staffrooms and classrooms stay stocked without starting from scratch every week.”
Vanpoperinghe says that when it comes to value, every cent in a school budget needs to be accounted for.
“It’s not just about a low price on a bunch of bananas; it’s about providing unwavering assurance that schools are getting everyday low prices on every shop, and that they are getting value at every stage,” she says.
“By bundling all the school essentials – from the canteen to the art room – into one place, we help schools save significant time. Less time spent managing different suppliers and juggling invoices; more time spent supporting the learning and wellbeing of the students.”
Beyond groceries: supporting schools’ broader goals
As Australian schools look beyond 2026, Vanpoperinghe says the path ahead is about much more than delivering groceries. “It’s about being a dependable partner that helps schools thrive while bringing a little bit of good every day,” she says.
But for Vanpoperinghe, supporting schools isn’t just about saving time or stretching budgets. Increasingly, it’s also about helping education communities align their everyday purchasing with the values they’re teaching students – from reconciliation to environmental responsibility.
“We are committed to making it easier for schools to support First Nations businesses,” she says. Woolworths at Work has an exclusive Indigenous-owned range featuring over 100 products and growing.
It includes everything from stationery to kitchen essentials, so schools can contribute towards their own reconciliation goals just by doing their everyday shopping.
“On the sustainability front, we know schools are leading the way in teaching the next generation to care for the planet, and we’re proud to be working towards having a 100% electric delivery fleet by 2030 and reducing emissions by 60%,” says Vanpoperinghe.
“We’re constantly improving our smart digital tools to give back time to principals, teachers, admin and business managers, and 2026 will be no different.”
