Kristine Niven is the founder of EAs in Education and executive assistant to associate principal Dr Steven Middleton at St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar. Niven is passionate about the impact and influence of executive assistants working with senior leaders with broad-based briefs in school settings. Her passion for the profession has led to a deep desire to assist other EA professionals working in strategically complex and demanding roles requiring high levels of relational trust, conflict resolution and adaptive leadership to connect, grow and belong through her professional learning network and training company, EAs in Education. Working in the role she provides herself adds another layer of connection to other EAs working in schools.
Niven has a deep understanding of the school environment and the role, with its rewards, challenges and opportunities. She understands the strategic and operational functions of a school. Working with students, colleagues, families and other diverse stakeholders, Niven truly loves getting to know people and their stories – gaining a sense of what motivates, inspires and drives them.

EAs in Education is a network for like-minded executive assistants working for senior educational leaders in schools, providing them with specific and tailored professional learning opportunities. It was founded by Kristine Niven.
Networks for EAs are common in the corporate world, but Niven, as an EA herself to associate principal Dr Steven Middleton at St Margaret’s Berwick Grammar, an independent school in Melbourne, felt there was nothing similar in education.
“I understand the complexities and often isolating nature of the role,” Niven says. “EAs in Education is committed to creating environments where learning and growth are at the forefront, ensuring that every interaction contributes to an optimistic, empowering and dynamic school culture.”
EAs in Education operates on the basis that relationships are at the core of exceptional work in a school setting. Niven embraces being an EA as it enables her to work with students, colleagues, families and other diverse stakeholders and gain a sense of what motivates, inspires and drives them.
One key issue EAs in Education aims to resolve is that the work of high-performing EAs is often hidden within the broader organisational context. They typically sit horizontally in an organisational structure, potentially isolated from close working connections with a larger set of colleagues.
Niven explains, “Issues of confidentiality, general perceptions, professional jealousy, and a lack of understanding of the complexities of the role may create a sense of a siloed operating context. The very appeal of the position may leave EAs feeling isolated, despite their overall satisfaction and passion for their professional role.”
The organisation, founded in 2022, has grown and now operates for most users under a 12-month model, which features eight x one-hour online (via Zoom) sessions, including two collaborative workshops per term, with special guest speakers on relevant topics. All members also receive portal access to all workshop recordings and other resources.
Describing what EAs in Education hopes to offer to users, Niven shares, “They will receive prompt and relevant communication and information from a passionate and enthusiastic founder who understands the role of the administrative professionals working within education and access to other connections within the industry.
“It’s an opportunity for learning, networking and collaboration. It’s also the chance to create new connections with colleagues along with fresh perspectives, outcomes for implementation and professional and personal growth.”
The workshops are updated, and content is added to the program through Niven’s own professional learning and day-to-day experiences.
“I analyse my own role and professional learning needs and look for the best ways to do things, whether that be learning new software, redesigning a process or thinking about a bigger picture,” she says. “I also seek feedback from my members as to what type of specific professional learning content they would like to cover.
EAs in Education has ambitious growth targets, which has seen it hold workshops in Sydney and Melbourne and has plans for a 2025 national in-person gathering.
“We continue to see cyber as a key opportunity and will be further developing customer-centric solutions across various geographies and segments in line with our growth aspirations”
