St Margaret’s Anglican Girls School is a leading independent day and boarding school in Brisbane, offering education for girls from Pre-Prep to Year 12, and boys in Pre-Prep. For 130 years, the school has been at the forefront of providing a holistic education that nurtures students’ social, emotional and physical wellbeing alongside academic excellence.
The school’s approach is guided by four distinctive frameworks: quality teaching and learning, professional learning, student wellbeing and a unique staff wellbeing framework. These frameworks outline the school’s core principles, ensuring that every aspect of education is approached with a comprehensive focus on the whole student and community.
Central to the school’s ethos is “The St Margaret’s Way,” a philosophy that fosters a strong sense of belonging, coherence and wellbeing. This philosophy is seen as essential for creating an optimal environment for teaching and learning.
St Margaret’s consistently delivers exceptional academic results, with students achieving outstanding NAPLAN scores and ATAR outcomes. In 2024, 63.1% of Year 12 graduates received an ATAR of 90 or above, underscoring the school’s commitment to academic excellence.
A key strategic priority for the school is “Growing our Staff,” and the Professional Learning Framework helps staff identify their professional development needs and assess their effectiveness. This focus on staff growth, coupled with the school’s commitment to continuous improvement, has led to recognition in a National School Improvement Tool Review, where St Margaret’s was described as a “lighthouse” school, earning “outstanding” rankings in six domains and “high” rankings in three. With enrolments at an all-time high, St Margaret’s continues to build on its exceptional reputation as a leading institution for girls' education.
