James Jenkins is a forward-thinking educational technology leader dedicated to transforming how artificial intelligence enhances teaching and learning. As head of AI and digital transformation at Canterbury College, he drives the college’s strategy for embedding AI across classrooms, operations, and professional learning, ensuring technology is used thoughtfully and creatively.
Starting his career as a science teacher, Jenkins quickly realised the potential of technology to ignite curiosity and improve outcomes. His passion for innovation led him to leadership roles focused on learning design, IT integration and building teacher capability. Under his guidance, Canterbury College has been recognised as a Microsoft Showcase School for five consecutive years, featured as a national case study by Microsoft Australia, and included in The Educator’s 5-Star Innovative Schools list. He has introduced initiatives such as Canterbury IT Immersion days and the establishment of an Esports Lab, both of which have enriched student experiences.
Jenkins is also a Microsoft Innovative Educator Fellow and a founding member of the Queensland Schools Network for Emerging Technologies, contributing to national and global conversations about ethical AI in education. With expertise in science and environmental education, he is committed to ensuring AI serves as a creative, responsible learning partner, preparing students and teachers for a rapidly evolving, AI-enabled world.
