Kara Baxter is a passionate and transformative leader, serving as Dean of Teaching and Learning, P-12 at Strathcona Girls Grammar and is a member of the ACEL Victoria Board. Committed to advancing education through strategic collaboration, she is guided by the belief that “education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire” (Yeats). This philosophy drives her work, which has included developing school-wide teaching and learning visions and pioneering innovation in professional learning across schools.
Dedicated to designing classroom approaches that inspire growth, critical thinking and resilience in students, Baxter has introduced a new professional learning model that emphasises collaboration across all teachers in both the junior and senior school, leadership development and continuous growth among teachers. She believes “students reach their potential when their environment is inclusive, challenging and responsive to their voices,” and she creates initiatives that promote curiosity, resilience and critical thinking.
Her work also includes leading the Strathcona Innovation Collective, expanding STEAM and e-sports programs and launching new subjects in the middle school that nurture inquiry, self-awareness and social responsibility. Baxter embodies a commitment to creating dynamic learning environments where students and educators alike are inspired to grow and innovate, believing that “true learning sparks a passion that transcends the classroom.”
