“Westfield Specialty and I have been trying to make sure we are opportunistic in the marketplace and that has allowed us to grow profitably and create a broader and more diversified portfolio”

Irrespective of their titled position, Ben Moody is adamant that effective school leaders need a spring in their step and a song in their heart. As the current leader of teaching and learning in the senior school at St Michael’s Grammar School, he draws on years of leadership experience in the performing arts to breathe life, energy and creativity into curriculum, pedagogy and assessment.
The scope and ambition of Moody’s work have always been grand. For many years, he developed longstanding creative partnerships with schools across the USA, Canada, Europe and China, regularly leading month-long, life-changing student performance tours. Along the way, he developed an enduring appetite for embracing new systems and methods, investigating novel ways to credit the deep learning that takes place in experiential and cocurricular contexts. For this, he was acknowledged as a finalist in the 2016 Victorian Education Excellence Awards.
Having recently completed a Master of Instructional Leadership at the University of Melbourne, Moody now leads a high-functioning team of academic experts in embedding the St Michael’s Teaching, Learning and Caring Framework across the school. In his typically present, engaging and pragmatic fashion, he is excited to further his career focus of recognising the breadth of ways in which young people can demonstrate growth, progress and competency.
