Celia Mara has worked in education for over 30 years across the Catholic and Independent sectors, both in Australia and internationally in the UK and the UAE. During her career, she has fulfilled many roles, providing educational leadership and support to her colleagues, including in her current role as the inaugural Head of Teaching and Learning at Balcombe Grammar School. In this role, Celia serves on the leadership team and drives two of the five pillars – the learning and enterprising pillars – from the School’s strategic plan.
Celia has a particular academic interest in ensuring that all students are afforded the opportunity to experience authentic learning through the development of key transferable skills and the attainment of digital credentials. Her current role has allowed her the agenda to work with staff on the successful launch of Balcombe’s STRIVE program. This reimagined Year 9 program received an Excellence Award for Innovation in Curriculum Design at the 2022 Australian Education Awards.
Celia has also implemented a project-based learning program called ‘Journeys’ for 2023 Year 7 students. This program will provide the opportunity for the students to build their capacity across three important dimensions of high achievement, namely mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality student work.
Always continuing to learn and develop herself, Celia has just obtained the Harvard Business School Certificate in School Management and Leadership and is an Aspirant member of AHISA.
