Sheldon College embodies a culture of “Love, Laughter, Learning,” which underpins a commitment to academic excellence, personal wellbeing, and a strong sense of community. Relationships are the heart of the college, with staff, students and families working together to create a supportive network where everyone feels valued.
The college is committed to innovation, continually seeking ways to enrich teaching and learning experiences. One notable example is the integration of virtual and augmented reality (VR and AR) into the classroom.
Head of Digital Pedagogy and Innovation, Adam Moss, explains, “Our commitment to integrating VR and AR is evident in our school-wide rotation system, where teachers can book into our mixed reality lab and work with the Prendi Wall alongside our in-house specialist, creating bespoke virtual and augmented reality experiences tailored to their units.”
With the use of Meta Quest Pro VR headsets, students explore complex concepts through immersive, interactive experiences. They can visualise abstract ideas like 4D geometry, dive into ocean ecosystems, travel through the solar system and visit ancient civilisations. These tools make learning more dynamic and accessible, encouraging engagement and deeper understanding.
Specialist programs further enrich the curriculum. Language students use the VR platform ImmerseMe to engage in cultural immersion and receive real-time pronunciation feedback, boosting fluency and confidence. The college is also piloting an innovative AI tool, developed in collaboration with Edexia, to enhance the accuracy and consistency of senior science assessment marking.
Innovation is driven by three core groups within the college:

Sheldon College also measures the impact of its innovations. Student engagement and the effectiveness of new tools are monitored using data from the Learning Management System (LMS) and qualitative feedback gathered through year-level meetings and parent surveys.
Looking to the future, the college is exploring the integration of a humanoid robot into its curriculum. This cross-disciplinary initiative will encourage collaboration among departments, allowing students to explore robotics, engineering and artificial intelligence.
“This initiative could provide students with hands-on experience in coding the movements of the robot, fostering their interest in engineering and technology,” says Moss. “By incorporating the humanoid robot into our curriculum, we would hope to create engaging and interactive learning experiences that enhance students’ coding skills and demystify robotics through creative problem solving and critical thinking.”
Principal Kate Mortimer highlights the college’s holistic vision.
She says, “For students and their families, this means a supportive educational experience that prioritises both academic and personal growth. For our staff, it’s about creating a workplace that values professional development, encourages innovative thinking, and nurtures a culture of respect and collaboration.”
Sheldon College’s commitment to innovation, community and inclusion ensures an environment where students and staff alike can thrive, achieving extraordinary outcomes.
