Chevalier College, a Catholic coeducational secondary day school owned and conducted by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC), aims to develop and nurture each student to become well-rounded graduates.
Innovation is paramount to the college, and its leadership team, led by principal Greg Miller, has courageously looked to the future, asking, “What might education look like at Chev in the next five years?”
This led to multiple forums seeking feedback from staff, students and parents.
Jo Kirby, Assistant Principal – New Ambitions and Innovation, says, “The college is moving away from the 20th century ‘grammar of schooling’ by developing new, alternative metrics to recognise, assess, credential and report on student and school success.”
The leadership team has maintained and grown a focus on wellbeing and student care, always remembering the heart of the college’s values while bringing rigour to teaching and learning.
Chevalier College prides itself on developing individuals in three key areas:
“We continue to see cyber as a key opportunity and will be further developing customer-centric solutions across various geographies and segments in line with our growth aspirations”

“Education today must prepare students for a future in a rapidly changing world, and the current system is falling short,” says Miller. “We believe that an educational approach that is flexible, adaptable and uses time more effectively will maximise engagement and personal growth. This will see students connect more deeply with their learning, acquiring complex capabilities and greater self-awareness, helping them flourish in a rapidly changing world.”
Across 2024, the college ran a trial of its ‘Best Use of Time’ initiative, involving Flipped Mondays, where students engage with pre-class content in self-directed learning spaces before arriving at their face-to-face lessons throughout the rest of the week, ready for direct connection to deeper learning activities.
For the year, the school engaged an action research partner to help assess the project’s viability. The findings of that assessment analysed:
“Now that the Best Use of Time trail has finished, the leadership team and its subcommittees will continue to evaluate the effectiveness of our reimagined timetable. A steering committee has been established comprising of students, parents and staff to ensure refinement and expansion is sustainable and effective,” says Rebecca Graham, Senior Assistant Principal – Teaching and Learning.
As the college continues to develop and innovate, it will ensure that students are able to explore more broadly who they are, what they are good at, and better understanding their unique purpose so they can find their place in their post-school world.
Miller says, “Our students can expect opportunities to discover who they are by exploring their strengths, interests and motivations. They can also expect to be offered ways to influence their pattern of study with choices around early commencement of the NSW Higher School Certificate.”
