Leadership
Mark Brockhus is a dynamic leader who has been serving as the principal of Salesian College Sunbury since 2011. He holds an MBA, a master’s degree in educational leadership and a graduate diploma in student wellbeing, which have equipped him with the skills and knowledge to excel in his role. His areas of expertise include wellbeing, leadership development and community relations. Brockhus has also been appointed president of the Australia Pacific Salesians Principals Association, a testament to his leadership skills and his commitment to the education sector. In recognition of his contribution to the industry, he has been made a fellow of the Principals Association of Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools.

Daniel Buttacavoli is the deputy principal – learning engagement and innovation at Salesian College Sunbury, a role he has held since 2017. He joined the college in 2016, bringing with him extensive experience from Emmanuel College, where he served as director of learning and English curriculum leader, and earlier teaching in the UK. Beginning his career as a history teacher, Buttacavoli later moved into English leadership. In 2012, he was named AITSL Australian Secondary Teacher of the Year, recognised for his strong student relationships and data-informed teaching. Buttacavoli is a passionate educational leader, dedicated to innovative, student-centred learning in evolving school environments.

Ammie Franklin is the deputy principal – people and culture at Salesian College Sunbury, known for her dedication to building inclusive and high-performing school communities grounded in faith. She brings extensive expertise in staff development, HR strategy, student wellbeing and leadership formation. Franklin developed a research-based coaching model influenced by Jim Knight and Growth Coaching International, supporting teacher growth and collaboration. Her insights have been shared through podcasts and conferences, advancing leadership in Catholic education. With a strong background in compliance, recruitment, and professional learning, Franklin continues to foster a culture of excellence and Salesian charism, empowering both staff and students to thrive.

Karen Green is an experienced educational leader serving as deputy principal – community and organisation at Salesian College Sunbury. Since January 1994, she has held diverse leadership roles across wellbeing, curriculum, and organisational development. With decades of dedication to education, Green focuses on supporting students to reach their full potential and empowering teachers to deliver high-quality programs. She holds a master’s degree in educational leadership and has taught English, humanities, and vocational pathways. Her extensive experience and commitment continue to strengthen the school community and enhance learning outcomes for all students.

Melinda Muir is in her third year as deputy principal – catholic identity at Salesian College Sunbury. With over 20 years of experience in Catholic primary and secondary education, she brings a deep belief in the power of positive relationships to enrich learning for both students and staff. Muir has held leadership roles in curriculum, wellbeing and faith and mission. She is committed to supporting the holistic development of every student – spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. Muir holds a Master of Education (Theology) from the University of Divinity and a Master of Educational Leadership from the University of Melbourne.

Director of ICT
Paul Hillas is the business manager at Salesian College Sunbury, bringing extensive managerial, financial and administrative experience across a range of sectors, including education, superannuation, stockbroking, unions and financial services in both Australia and the UK. Since joining the college in 2012, Hillas has focused on creating a strong foundation for learning through strategic planning, robust financial controls, effective communication and leadership. He also serves as the college’s company secretary, is a member of the College Executive and chairs the Rupertswood Sports Management Committee. Hillas’s expertise supports the ongoing growth and operational excellence of the Salesian College community.

Romi Bennett is an experienced educator and leader with a strong background in student wellbeing. After completing her VCE, she began studying Criminal Justice Administration at RMIT before transferring to the University of Melbourne, where she graduated with a degree in Social Work in 1995. Bennett worked as a social worker for eight years before completing her Diploma of Education in 2003. She has been teaching ever since, with leadership roles beginning in her second year. Bennett has worked in several Catholic secondary schools, primarily in Melbourne’s South East, and earned a Master’s in Student Wellbeing from the University of Melbourne in 2015. She currently leads a team at Bosco Campus, Salesian College Sunbury.

Clinton Gray is the assistant principal – Savio campus (Years 7–10) at Salesian College Sunbury, where he has served since 2019. He has held several key leadership roles, including director of learning at both the Bosco and Savio campuses, leader of curriculum and assessment, and leader of learning – innovation. Originally a History teacher, he now primarily teaches senior English. Gray holds a Master of Asian Studies and is nearing completion of a Master of Education with a focus on management and leadership. Guided by the instructional leadership model, he is committed to building a dynamic learning community by driving teacher growth and fostering a shared vision for deep, impactful learning.
