Compass Catholic Community is a Catholic alternative education school for young people aged 17-24, located in Davoren Park. Part of Catholic Education South Australia (CESA), it provides an innovative and supportive environment for young people who haven’t thrived in mainstream education.
Compass unpacks the traditional model of schooling, replacing rigid timetables and uniforms with a learning approach that values student agency and wellbeing. There are no bells, no subjects – just projects and workshops shaped by students’ passions, interests and goals, co-designed with Learning Facilitators (teachers) and supported by Learning Supporters (youth workers). A wellbeing model built from the ground up ensures each young person’s journey is supported, with practical barriers removed through initiatives like free daily breakfasts and free onsite childminding.
The school community is guided by the values of faith, courage, love, hope and compassion. The small but dedicated team of Learning Facilitators, Learning Supporters and Operations staff works side by side with young people every day, putting the student at the centre of everything they do.
As part of CESA, Compass benefits from the stability and support of a system that invests in professional learning and provides staff with favourable employment conditions and competitive salaries. At Compass, staff and students work together to create a place that feels real, safe and full of possibilities.
