Wellness: The Dignity of the Human Person
The College, founded in 1927, takes pride in its ability to attract and retain the best talent from across the education industry in order to fulfill its mission to educate young people for excellence and kindness.
The dedicated 250 staff include such roles as teachers, psychologists, administration staff and gardeners.
The College has undertaken several important strategies to drive growth in recent years, with one of the most significant being an investment in purpose-built and specially designed learning and teaching spaces, facilities and technology.
Staff are recruited via a comprehensive process that ensures a strong alignment between the candidate’s own personal and professional values and the College’s values.
Central to this is a meticulous assessment of their skills, qualifications and experience in education or other industries. Through targeted job postings, rigorous interview processes, reference checks and other validated pre-employment checks, the College identifies individuals who not only possess the requisite skills but who are also a match for fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment, and finally, who complement its existing team members.
Salesian College Sunbury prioritises the continuous professional development of employees through multifaceted professional learning opportunities tailored to meet the evolving needs of both staff and students that are designed and led by the Director of Staff Learning and Deputy Principal – People and Culture.
Drawing on a blend of in-house workshops, external seminars and online resources, the College equips its faculty with the knowledge, skills and tools necessary to excel in their roles and contribute meaningfully to the institution’s mission.
Emphasising a culture of collaboration and innovation, a learning environment is fostered where employees are encouraged to explore:
new pedagogical approaches
incorporate cutting-edge technologies
engage in ongoing reflection and feedback
By investing in the growth and enrichment of its workforce, the College ensures its employees remain at the forefront of educational best practices, driving continuous improvement and enhancing the overall student experience.
In addition, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) policies are effectively communicated and understood by all employees through a multifaceted approach. This includes incorporating them into professional learning sessions throughout the year, both online and face to face. The College utilises its employee portal to host resources and policies, ensuring easy access for all staff members. Salesian College Sunbury is proud to foster a culture of openness and dialogue where employees feel comfortable discussing all issues with school leaders.
