These are deeply ingrained in staff and students and are reflected in the way they interact with one another on a daily basis, in the tradition of St John Bosco.
The college’s unique approach to education, based on Salesian philosophy, emphasises the importance of providing a nurturing and supportive environment where students can grow and develop into well-rounded individuals.
An example of this is the oratory program, which offers:
unique and flexible daily sessions for students to engage in a range of topics, enhancing their personal and academic development
small group sessions structured within their house and led by an oratory leader
the chance for students to engage in growth conversations, which are reflective, personal and evidence-based conversations with their oratory leader to encourage personal development and goal setting
A unique offering at the college is the agricultural program on the onsite 200-hectare working farm, with livestock (cows, sheep and chickens), a large vegetable patch and acres worth of grains growing. Students have the opportunity to learn about caring for animals and land, environmentally friendly farming techniques, harvesting crops, animal husbandry and even participating in showing prized bulls at regional shows several times over the year.
The college has undertaken several important strategies to drive growth in recent years, but perhaps the most significant has been its commitment to investing in purpose-built and specially designed learning and teaching spaces, facilities and technology.
Whether through regular communication, personalised support or providing access to some of the best learning and teaching resources, Salesian College Sunbury is committed to delivering an outstanding level of service to its community.
In 2024 we are embarking on a new approach to education that centres on the student. The traditional approach involves students learning subjects that are based on their year level and along a fixed pathway that determines which subjects they study, and when. Whereas My Salesian Passport empowers students to personalise their learning journey based on their passions, readiness to learn, and aspirations for the future. By giving students the tools to shape their own path we seek to foster a lifelong love of learning and desire to ‘strive in life’.
