a student-run shop for students’ own goods and services
an employment agency at the College for students to ensure their skills and talents are visible and valued
Other innovations include Djoowak: The Beyond Boundaries Institute (BBI). Started in 2018, BBI comprises a team of College staff who work alongside partners from the wider educational community and industry to monitor and learn from global trends across industries and the education sector. The aim is to ensure students thrive in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous world.
More recently, ASC opened The Studio School in Fremantle. This bespoke coeducational campus for Years 10–12 offers an alternative to mainstream schooling structures and systems through a studio model and has resulted in:
students combining their studies with real-world projects and engagements to achieve their WACE and, if desired, an ATAR
a community response exceeding expectations, with double the projected enrolments in Year 1
already in excess of 60% of total overall capacity in Year 2

Unity Grammar is led by chief executive Sayd Farook, who has extensive experience in executive commercial roles. In addition, he founded and sits on the board of trustees as vice chair for the Responsible Finance & Investment Foundation and is also on the board of Australia for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
The principal of senior school 7–12 Sam Halbouni is passionate about education, having served various Islamic schools for almost 30 years to date. While Ola Issa, principal of junior school K–6, has almost two decades of teaching and leadership experience in the early, middle and upper primary grades.
The school prides itself on maintaining and being guided by a series of overarching principles in all of its dealings:
The successful culture is championed by Provis, ably supported by a strong leadership team (LT), with no fewer than five of the seven LT members being appointed as principals or CEOs at other leading WA schools and organisations in the last five years.
This clear pattern of effective leadership traces back to ASC’s central strategy to create a “safe” culture: one that encourages all community members to feel comfortable with their vulnerability and to take measured risks in the pursuit of creating new and better ways of doing things.
There is also a collective commitment to “flearning” – learning through failing – and this principle is supported at the very top of the organisation, including the Board’s commitment to a healthy appetite towards risk in support of a school with such an innovative and progressive agenda.
ASC is equally focused on continuing to be innovative and allowing students, present and future, to grow. To achieve this, the College has commenced work on a new strategic plan with renowned CEO and founder of Learning Future, Louka Parry. The work, which will take place throughout 2023 and involve every aspect of the ASC community, from staff, students, parents and former students, will progress the ASC’s very significant achievements to date and enable it to continue breaking new ground in education.
