Reverend Barry Macalister serves as Council Chair for Arndell Anglican College, guiding the College with a strong sense of purpose and visionary leadership. Comprising dedicated members of the public and representatives from the Anglican Schools Corporation, the Council under his leadership provides the critical governance framework, fiscal responsibility and overarching strategic vision necessary for long-term institutional health.
Reverend Macalister’s stewardship has secured absolute financial stability for the College. This unwavering foundation has paved the way for the rolling execution of Arndell’s ambitious Master Plan, ensuring a bright, sustainable future for the entire community.

Dr Gareth Leechman has served as Headmaster of Arndell Anglican College since 2010, guiding the school through a profound cultural and financial turnaround. A recognised scholar-leader, his doctoral research produced the Good School Governance Framework, and he was recently honoured as a recipient of The Educator’s Most Influential Award.
Under his stewardship, Arndell has achieved record-breaking enrolments of over 1,250 students. Dr Leechman oversees the day-to-day management, cultural vitality and educational excellence of the College, working closely with his Executive Team to remain deeply connected to the lived experience of the classroom floor.

Austin Robinson serves as deputy head at Arndell Anglican College, playing a pivotal role in the school’s leadership structure. Tasked with overseeing Whole-School Strategy and Operations, Robinson ensures complete operational alignment with the College’s core strategic priorities. He works cohesively across the College to mentor middle leaders and support staff, ensuring that daily life at the College runs seamlessly.

Set on more than 30 bushland acres in the semi-rural Hawkesbury, Arndell Anglican College has been recognised as one of The Educator’s 5-Star Best School for the breadth of experience it offers students from Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12. The College describes its culture as “a living promise: to unite rigorous academic excellence with intentional character formation, grounded deeply in Christian faith,” and that promise plays out on a single, continuous campus where, by its own account, “every single child is known, nurtured and loved for who they are”.
Much of what sets Arndell apart sits beyond the classroom. The College runs more than 50 co-curricular clubs and programs all included within the College’s fees, anchored by initiatives that reflect its regional setting. A premier Equestrian Program supports riders from Kindergarten to Year 12 and the College hosts two major annual interschool competitions, while the Agriculture Show Team works on the College’s sustainable campus farm, preparing and presenting livestock at shows across Sydney. The College points to a student who ranked fourth in the state for agriculture in 2025 as a marker of the program’s strength. For its youngest learners, the bespoke Eagle Wings framework introduces a wide range of activities designed to build confidence and belonging from a child’s earliest years.
Student support rests on a multi-layered network spanning wellbeing and academic need. A structured House system sits alongside a Wellbeing Advisory Centre, a full-time registered psychologist and an onsite Health Clinic staffed by registered nurses. Heads of Diverse Learning across the Junior and Secondary Schools coordinate tailored support, and the cross-campus Buddy Program pairs older and younger students to strengthen peer mentoring.
Technology runs through the College’s teaching. A one-to-one device program spans Kindergarten to Year 12, with iPads for the youngest students and laptops from Year 5, all covered within College fees. Students work with specialist STEM labs, CAD software, 3D printers, laser cutters and robotics. Over the past year, Arndell has installed Hearing Augmentation technology across its learning spaces. Alongside its ongoing use of the School TV Diversity and Inclusion Series, the College provides digitally accessible, expert wellbeing resources for its community.
Inclusion is underpinned by Disability Discrimination and Gender Equity frameworks, and the College celebrates a community that includes a four percent Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student population, honoured through initiatives such as Harmony Day.
Guiding the College is headmaster Gareth Leechman, who has led Arndell since 2010 through a period of cultural and financial change and record enrolments of more than 1,250 students. He works with an Executive Team spanning Junior and Secondary leadership, wellbeing, teaching and learning, chaplaincy and business services, whose members stay connected to the daily life of the school.
