“By showcasing the added richness of the digital solution, in conjunction with the printed textbook, Winc is working with schools to help overcome the digital versus print divide”
Katie Mystakidis,
Winc Australia
“One thing we have come to learn is that every school is different. That’s why we offer choice and flexibility in our Back to School offer,” Katie Mystakidis, head of education at Winc Australia, tells The Educator.
“With three different options available, our solutions are designed to support the full spectrum of how a school might want to tackle the busy back-to-school period.”
One of these options is Winc’s Bulk Ordering, which Mystakidis says provides the ease and convenience of one shipment to the school.
“This can be grouped by year level, department or campus on the school’s confirmed delivery date with separate invoices,” she says.
Winc’s Back to School offer also includes Classroom Packs, which allow schools to have their supplies sorted into individual identical packs per year level.
“Our Direct-To-Parent Resource Lists allow the parent to shop online using the products recommended by their child’s school,” Mystakidis says. “Additionally, our experienced Account Management team can support the school in choosing the right solution for them.”
As well as easing the burden for families, Winc’s Direct-To-Parent website is also reducing pressure on educators and school administrators during the peak back-to-school period. “The website allows the school to share the recommended subject and class requirements list with parents and students,” Mystakidis says.
“Our dedicated Winc Back to School services team prepares the school’s list online on behalf of the school, which schools can then easily distribute to their parents. Schools with resource lists from previous years can simply roll over their lists to the next year.”
Mystakidis says Winc’s easy-to-use platform ensures parents can purchase all school-recommended items with just a few clicks. “Delivery is then made straight to the student’s home, with no action required from the school,” she says.
Additionally, Winc provides school administrators with a helpful marketing pack. “This includes banners for school newsletters, school websites or social media platforms containing all the information parents need to know to place their order.
“Plus, the parent ordering website has additional ‘user guide’
videos in multiple languages to assist parents and help reduce calls directly to the school.”
Mystakidis says the local proximity of Winc’s Customer Experience team, based on both the west and east coasts of Australia, ensures someone is available during business hours to answer any parent query.
“Our experience in knowing what schools and parents need has helped us to deliver a very easy-to-use website and total shopping experience.”
Bridging the gap between print and digital
The ‘digital divide’ in Australia has been a big topic of discussion in recent years, and this is another important area that Winc is addressing.
“The Winc eBooks offering has been part of our Back to School solution now for almost 10 years. In that time, we’ve seen more and more schools interested in digital solutions while also at times maintaining printed copies,” Mystakidis says.
“As we know, individual students learn in different ways, and many of our resources are often sold as both print and digital bundles.”
Mystakidis says that as digital solutions become more utilised and accepted in schools, it is critical that any eBook solution links with the school’s broader learning management system. “This ensures students and teachers can access resources from a centralised point and have real-time updates with any changes, notes or messages.”
The Winc eBooks app also has an immersive eReader to allow rich data such as annotations, text to speech, dictionary look-up and collaboration with peers and teachers.
“By showcasing the added richness of the digital solution, in conjunction with the printed textbook, Winc is working with schools to help overcome the digital versus print divide,” Mystakidis says. “By optimising both, we continue to prove the adage: the sum really is greater than the parts.”
Supporting schools to focus on what matters most
With rising complexity in Australian K-12 education, Winc is doubling down to ensure its services remain personalised, inclusive and responsive to the unique needs of every school community, Mystakidis says.
“Working together with individual schools is something we are very passionate about at Winc. We know that each school is one of a kind and has individual characteristics,” she says.
“To support that, we continue to provide a dedicated Education Account Management team to regularly call on schools and discuss their requirements to develop a personalised solution.”
Mystakidis says Winc also offers all the leading education brands schools know and love, such as Faber-Castell, Bostik, Staedtler, Artline and Spirax, alongside its own unique Winc-branded products.
“We pride ourselves on the breadth of product range and choice we can offer schools. We all know that teachers and staff love a particular brand they have used for many years, and we strive to ensure we can meet their needs,” she says.
“Our web platforms are also very easy to use and can provide rich data back to the school, such as spend by cost centre, department or campus level.”
Mystakidis says Winc’s Back to School solutions can also be scaled up or down depending on the school’s enrolment numbers, curriculum changes or subject additions.
“Given the complexity Australian educators face, Winc Education works together with schools to help support their resourcing requirements so they can focus on what they do best.”
